Your academic host for the taster session:
Josh Appignanesi is a writer and director known for his six feature films and numerous shorts, videos, and commercials. He has worked with talents such as John Malkovich, Tom Hiddleston, and Michelle Dockery, and collaborated with writers including Zadie Smith and John Berger. His recent work includes the climate activist documentary My Extinction, which was showcased at COP28 and the Glastonbury Festival 2024. Other notable projects include the docufiction Husband, the surrealist thriller Female Human Animal, and the documentary The New Man, all of which received widespread critical acclaim and were released on platforms like MUBI and Amazon Prime.
He also directed the award-winning comedy The Infidel, starring Omid Djalili and others, and his debut feature, Song of Songs, was nominated for a BIFA and competed at the Rotterdam, Cannes, and ACID festivals. Appignanesi co-wrote the rom-com All Roads Lead to Rome with Sarah Jessica Parker.
A BAFTA and BIFA jury member, he advises on various industry bodies and teaches at institutions such as the London Film School, Met Film School, and Roehampton University, where he is an Associate Professor in Film.

Taster session: The Psychology of Money: Why we make bad financial decisions
Your academic host:
Dr. Ekaterina Ipatova is a Senior Lecturer in Finance and Programme Leader for Economics at Roehampton Business School, where she has taught since 2016. She has also lectured at institutions such as London Business School, Queen Mary University of London, and Bayes Business School, specialising in finance, investments, and quantitative methods.
Her research explores experiential learning in finance, financial literacy for Gen Z, and women-led SMEs, particularly the lived experiences of mother entrepreneurs and the policy changes needed to support them. In May 2024, she founded FAWB (Financial Awareness and Wellbeing), a student-led social enterprise raising financial awareness among Gen Z, currently expanding in collaboration with the London School of Economics.
In this taster session, Dr. Ekaterina will introduce key concepts in finance and economics, offering insights into real-world applications and how financial literacy shapes economic decision-making.

Join Dr. Fengling Tang, Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Studies and Programme Leader for BA/FdA/Top-Up Early Childhood Studies and the Froebel Professional Certificate at the University of Roehampton, for an insightful session on our Early Childhood Studies programmes.
Dr. Tang is a leading expert in early childhood education, serving as Co-Convenor for the British Educational Research Association’s Early Childhood Education and Care Special Interest Group and as an Executive Committee Member of the International Froebel Society. She is also part of the Early Childhood Studies Degree Network Policy, Lobbying, and Advocacy Strategy Group.
With various publications in early childhood pedagogy and research in higher education, Dr. Tang brings a wealth of knowledge to this session, where you’ll learn about course details, career opportunities, and have the chance to ask questions.

Dr Ping Shum is a Senior Lecturer and MA Media and Communications programme leader at the University of Roehampton, with nine years of experience at UK universities. He began his journalism career in Hong Kong before joining the BBC World Service in London in 2004, where he covered international affairs and politics. Ping holds a joint PhD from King’s College London and the National University of Singapore, as well as master's degrees from Cambridge and Australia.

Your academic host:
Dorothy Kwagala-Igaga, senior lecturer and Deputy Head of school
Legal Practice: Dorothy qualified as an advocate in Uganda in 2002 and practiced in Kampala before moving to the UK in 2006. She practiced as a criminal defence advocate at the Public Defenders’ Association of Uganda. She also taught at the Law School, Makerere University Kampala.
Teaching: Dorothy teaches the Law of Tort, Tax Law and Medical Law and Ethics at undergraduate level. She joined Roehampton Law School in June 2016 from Kingston University where she taught Tort and English Legal System and Legal Method between 2011 and May 2016.
Expertise in: Tort Law, Medical Law and Ethics, Tax Law.

Join Anthony Barlow, Programme Leader and Programme Lead for Geography Education at the University of Roehampton, for an insightful session on our Primary Education (QTS) programme. With Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching primary-age children in Bolton and Hillingdon, London, Anthony brings a wealth of expertise in teacher training and primary education.
His research focuses on how children and teachers understand their local environment, and he is a trustee of the Geographical Association. He is also the author of Mastering Primary Geography (2019, Bloomsbury).

Join Joanna Quinn for an engaging taster session led by a senior lecturer in Primary Education with over 22 years of experience in primary schools, including more than a decade as a headteacher. Now working in Higher Education, she specialises in supporting the learning and development of primary school teachers at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is currently studying for a Doctor of Education (EdD) at Strathclyde University, a professional doctoral degree focused on applying research to real-world educational practice. Her research explores teacher agency for early career teachers. This session offers invaluable insights for aspiring and practising educators looking to enhance their professional growth and classroom impact.

Your academic hosts for the taster session:
Chrissy is the Head of Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Roehampton, developing the new Undergraduate programme launching in September 2025. With 22 years of NHS experience, she’s worked with diverse client groups and emphasizes team collaboration and person-centered care.
Formerly Head of Education at a hospice, she led simulation-based learning for palliative care. Chrissy is also a PhD student at the University of Chichester, researching narrative in end-of-life care education.
Hannah is a Lecturer in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Roehampton, where she is developing the curriculum and leading on placements for the new Undergraduate programme starting in September 2025. With over 6 years of experience as a Children’s Speech and Language Therapist in the NHS, she has worked across early years community settings and primary and secondary schools.
Her expertise includes supporting children with Autism, language delays, speech disorders, and Developmental Language Disorder. Hannah values team collaboration, professionalism, and person-centered care, aligning with the core principles of the curriculum.

Lilian Martins da Silva joined the University of Roehampton in January 2024 and has over 20 years of experience in architecture and sustainable building technology in both Brazil and the UK. A chartered engineer and member of CIBSE, she specialises in whole-life carbon strategies, low-energy building design, and environmental certifications (BREEAM, LEED, WELL).
In this taster session, Lilian will explore the role of sustainability in the built environment, sharing insights from her extensive industry experience. Attendees will gain an understanding of key design principles and how sustainability is embedded into real-world projects.
