The programme supports the development of apprentices to undertake the main duties and tasks of a Construction Site Manager, which include ensuring safe systems of work, managing productivity on site managing contracts and funding constraints, ensuring minimal impact on the environment, managing interfaces between various stakeholders, and ensuring the projects are completed to the specification and quality divided by the client.
Did you know
The programme is part of a broader suite of interconnected courses, incorporating shared modules that bring together learners from sustainable engineering and technology disciplines.

Skills
The aim is to equip learners with the skills needed to effectively supervise the construction process, with a strong focus on quality assurance, regulatory and planning systems, and the key considerations related to political, economic, social, cultural, technological, legal, environmental, and health and safety factors. Additionally, learners will develop essential transferable skills and behaviors, including creativity, problem-solving, digital capabilities, teamwork, self-reflection, and self-management, all of which will enable them to make an immediate and meaningful contribution to the supervision of construction sites.
Learning
The learning and teaching strategies are underpinned by the project-based learning for the apprentices and supported by the work-based projects and case studies (real or simulated) depending on the module. There will be minimal use of lectures which will be used to develop knowledge and understanding of the subject matter. Key learning takes places via workshops, seminars and group working.
To complement their workplace learning, apprentices will engage in 6 hours of off-the-job training each week. This structured academic study is carefully crafted to deepen theoretical understanding, enriching the ability to apply knowledge effectively within the workplace and integrate new concepts.
Each apprentice will be allocated a Personal Tutor for each year of the programme who will be the first academic point of contact who will advise on academic issues, signpost them to wider areas of support for mitigating circumstances, counselling, health and wellbeing concerns and careers advice as needed. The PTs play a crucial role to ensure that apprentice issues are addressed timely so that they progress with their studies smoothly and complete the apprenticeship successfully.

Assessment
Students will be assessed using a combination of assessment strategies which will include the submission of technical reports, lab reports, essays, in-class open and closed book tests, online assessments, and oral presentations. The programme includes both formative assessment, with respect to interim reviews and feedback / feedforward and summative assessment, which will be carried out in accordance with the university’s assessment policy.
