The University of Roehampton is delighted to announce that our BSc in Psychology and Coaching has been awarded the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) Global Quality Award (EQA).

This achievement makes the programme the first undergraduate degree in the UK to combine evidence-based psychological education with professional coaching training accredited by EMCC Global.
The EMCC Global accreditation applies to the Level 5 Diploma in Coaching, an integral part of the degree, and ensures graduates can begin their careers as fully accredited coaching practitioners immediately upon completing the course.
Coupled with existing accreditation from the British Psychological Society (BPS), this recognition highlights the programme’s exceptional quality, preparing students to excel in the rapidly growing coaching industry and beyond.
Programme Leader and Lecturer in Psychology, Sara Khalil, expressed her enthusiasm for the recognition: “We are delighted that our vision of offering an undergraduate degree that teaches coaching through a psychological lens has been accredited by EMCC Global. This programme is uniquely positioned as the first undergraduate degree to integrate scientific, evidence-based psychological knowledge with practical coaching skills.
“With dual accreditation from EMCC Global and the British Psychological Society, our students will graduate with unparalleled qualifications: a psychology degree complemented by the credentials to work as coaching practitioners. This dual recognition by national and international bodies ensures that our graduates are not only equipped with deep academic knowledge but also with exceptional, highly sought-after employability skills that set them apart in the global marketplace.”
Psychology and Coaching at Roehampton blends academia with practical experience, giving students over 100 hours of coaching practice in real-life settings by graduation. This evidence-based approach to human behaviour equips graduates to deliver ethical and effective coaching grounded in psychological science.
Denise Whitworth, VP Accreditation and Membership for EMCC Global, commended the programme, stating: “The team is to be congratulated on developing this world-class, well-designed programme. The course has a good progression of knowledge and skills, and aims, learning outcomes, and assessment are clearly aligned. It introduces and maintains a high level of reflective practice throughout, which is important in developing learners into reflective practitioners and setting them on a good path for their own individual accreditation.”
The University of Roehampton offers a cost-effective path to dual accreditation, exceeding coaching profession standards, with qualifications included in tuition fees—typically worth over £10,000 outside such programmes.
Graduates of the BSc in Psychology and Coaching are well-positioned to enter the expanding coaching industry as accredited professionals, whether pursuing employment or independent work. They graduate with skills sought by a breadth of employers and disciplines opening up pathways to opportunities in coaching, business, marketing, HR and a variety of health professions.
