Professor Cecilia Essau, Professor of Developmental Psychopathology has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Contribution Award by The British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Developmental Psychology Section.

This award recognises her outstanding contributions to the field of developmental psychology through research, teaching, and professional service.
Professor Essau, a renowned scholar in developmental psychopathology, expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am honoured and humbled to receive the Distinguished Contribution Award. It is a privilege to contribute to this field, and I look forward to continuing my work alongside my esteemed colleagues and students."
As part of the award recognition, Professor Essau has been invited to deliver a keynote address at the BPS Developmental Psychology Annual Conference, taking place at Royal Holloway, University of London, from 10–11 September 2025. The formal award presentation will be held during the event.
The Distinguished Contribution Award is given to individuals who have made a lasting impact on developmental psychology through innovative research, leadership, and mentorship. Professor Essau’s extensive body of work has significantly advanced understanding of mental health and resilience in young people, shaping both academic discourse and practical interventions.
