The University of Roehampton has excellent facilities for students who are interested in esports and gaming, whether you are focussed on competitive games or just want to relax after lectures.

We also offer advice and training for students interested in creating content, from live streaming to video production for YouTube and Twitch.  We have a large and active esports society that competes in national esports tournaments.

The Esports Arena

The Roehampton Esports Arena is open to all Roehampton students. It’s located in the Queen’s Building at Southlands College and is equipped with 20 high-end gaming PCs. The esports arena is powered by Zowie with 240hz esports monitors, optical keyboards and lightweight mice, our esports facilities are world-class. It’s the perfect place to use if you want to build a competitive esports team and represent University of Roehampton in national and international tournaments. The Esports Arena is also open to anyone who wants to meet other gamers, socialise and relax.

Facilities

We have 20 high-specification gaming PCs, equipped with i7 CPUs, and GTX 1080 graphic cards that are available to all students. The Arena is set up for practice sessions, social events and tournaments. We also have a room dedicated to live streaming and content creation. It’s equipped with everything you might need for a live stream – green screen, cameras, lights, professional microphones and more! The setup wouldn’t be complete without dual monitors and RTX2080. It’s the live streaming station everyone dreams of, and it’s available to all Roehampton students.

Competitive Teams

Do you want to build a competitive team and represent the University of Roehampton in national and international competitions? Currently we have teams that represent Roehampton on a national scale in NUEL and NSE tournaments. We have teams for League of Legends, Overwatch, Rainbow Six Siege, FIFA, Apex, Fortnite, CSGO, Valorant and other game titles. We have teams for players who are just getting into esports, as well as players who are already at semi-professional level! Our League of Legends team (Roehampton Origins) reached the NSE finals in 2019 and placed 2nd in the Planet 9 invitational tournament. Is your game not on the list? We’re fully dedicated to support students in a variety of esports titles.

Content Creation

Esports industry is so much more than just competitive players. Shoutcasters, analysts, coaches and managers are all integral part of the industry, but at the front of it all are content creators. We have a dedicated streaming set up available for all students to use. We offer our students a wide range of opportunities to create original content about gaming and esports, and advice on presenting, editing and curating content.

Scholarships

The Roehampton Esports Scholarship, the first of its kind for any UK university, is worth £2,000 a year and will support student on any undergraduate and postgraduate course enrolling at Roehampton. We have also introduced a new Roehampton Women in Esports Scholarship and applications are also now open. The scholarships will be available for students enrolling and prospective students can apply here
