Roehampton University
Open Spaces. Open Minds.
Roehampton University has recently launched a sports scholarship programme to include four annual £3,000 scholarships rewarding students for their commitment to sporting excellence.
The University is dedicated to giving its students the opportunity to play sports at all levels. We recognise the difficulties students encounter trying to balance academic studies with training and competition schedules. Alongside the scholarship we offer a support network designed to encourage talented sports men/women to meet their full potential not only in their chosen sport but also in their academic studies.

Roehampton Club is an exclusive, private members' sports club, set in 100 acres of parkland, close to Richmond Park. Originally established in 1901 as an officers' polo club, it offers arguably the finest range of sporting and leisure facilities in the London area including; an 18-hole golf course, 29 tennis courts, 5 squash courts, 4 croquet lawns, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a gym, fitness studio, health and beauty clinic and Bridge room.
The Club is working together with Roehampton University to support the development of talented student sportswomen and sportsmen. In a ground breaking initiative, the Club will offer three complimentary annual Club memberships to students who:
• Demonstrate an excellent playing ability that enables them to represent the Club’s first team in squash, tennis or golf
• Are available to coach Club Juniors in their chosen sport for an agreed amount of time;
• Would practise at the Club with other members
• Would be available to play for the University teams in national BUCS competitions
• Would be ambassadors for Roehampton University student sport and demonstrate high standards of personal conduct at all times.
Any new or continuing Roehampton University student is eligible to apply. The award could be combined with existing University Scholarships for Sporting Excellence (which currently include financial support of £1,000 per annum and sport sciences support – see http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/undergraduate-courses/financialsupport/scholarshipsbursaries.html), the Wandsworth Sports Scholarship for residents of Wandsworth Borough, or can be awarded independently.
The Roehampton Club Scholarships was launched in September 2009. Existing or incoming students who are interested in this exciting opportunity should contact Ian Pickup, Director of Sport & Wellbeing, Roehampton University in the first instance. (I.Pickup@Roehampton.ac.uk).
Closing date for next round of applications is end of September 2010.
Applicants should provide written evidence of their achievements to date in their chosen sport (supported by a reference from a National Governing Body or club coach).
We have a range of scholarships available to international students, including the ‘Roehampton University 2025 Scholarship’ which includes a £4,000 tuition fee discount. 20 of these scholarships are available to students at all levels of study, including postgraduate research. Applicants should be able to demonstrate academic excellence and the capacity to contribute significantly to the Roehampton University community. This can include representing the University in student sport competitions and/or supporting the development of sport teams and clubs at Roehampton. Applications for this award are therefore welcomed from sport-playing International students, although please note that successful recipients of the 2025 scholarship cannot receive an additional sports scholarship.
