    Research Centre for Performance and Creative Exchange

    The Centre seeks to develop research that is routed in some specific way through Europe and is self reflexive about this located quality. It is inclusive of research into any theatre entity that bears in some way on this situatedness. It will also support those beyond Europe whose work critically addresses these dynamics and gives geographical and historical perspective to the contingency of European conditions on other international dimensions.

    Applied Music Research Centre (AMRC)

    The Centre promotes and conducts world-class research, consultancy and teaching in applied music, and will coordinate activity in these areas across the University, within the UK, and internationally. The Centre is internationally unique in its interdisciplinary expertise and interest in music, psychology, education, therapy, cultural studies and in the application of this expertise to community and practical issues.

    Centre for Educational Research in Equalities, Policy and Pedagogy (CEREPP)

    CEREPP advances research in a wide range of topics in education. These include: i) in/equalities and social justice in education; ii) education policy and professionalism; and iii) curriculum and pedagogy. These research areas are linked through the Centre's themes of policy, pedagogy and equalities, and via a shared commitment to critical research analysis informing and challenging existing educational policies and practices. To this end, current research in the Centre includes educational inequalities (with a focus on gender, social class, ‘race’ and ethnicity), pupils’ and teachers’ social identities, violence in schools, and teaching and learning in school and higher education and across a range of curriculum subjects. CEREPP seeks to shape the field of Education via provision of accessible and relevant research that facilitates educationalists to advance educational improvement and social change.

    The Centre for Research in Beliefs, Rights and Values in Education (BRaVE) brings together staff and research students who are interested in exploring philosophical, religious and ethical issues in education.     The Early Childhood Research Centre (ECRC) builds upon a long tradition of enquiry in the field at Froebel College.     National Centre for Research in Children's Literature (NCRCL)

    The Centre promotes academic excellence in research into children’s literature, primarily through thriving postgraduate MA and PhD programmes, conferences and biennial international summer schools. Tutors also teach at undergraduate level, to ensure the position and prestige of children’s literature within the University of Roehampton.

    The aim of the Centre for Research in Romanticism is to provide a focus for research in the area of Romantic and Eighteenth Century literature and culture.     Centre for Research in History and Theory

    Roehampton’s Centre for Research in History and Theory (CHAT) was established in 2006 to build on the University’s international reputation in the fields of historiography and the philosophy of history. CHAT is the only research institute specialising in such areas in the UK and its membership brings together scholars from History, Classical Civilisation, Art History, Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies, Dance, and Drama.

    Centre for Research in Evolutionary and Environmental Anthropology (CREEA)

    The Centre for Research in Evolutionary and Environmental Anthropology (CREEA) was founded in 2002, in recognition of the strengths in evolutionary and environmental anthropology at Roehampton. Research carried out by staff and students encompasses a range of fields in primatology, including socioecology, life history strategies, communication, welfare, reproductive endocrinology, comparative morphology, crop-raiding behaviour and social anthropology.

    Centre for Research in Ecology (CRE)

    The Centre for Research in Ecology comprises a group of organismal and physiological ecologists. Research undertaken by staff and students encompasses a range of topics including the behaviour, physiology and ecology of vertebrates and the ecology of invertebrates in a variety of habitats including freshwater, forest canopies and soils.

    Sport and Exercise Science Research Centre (SESRC)

    Sport is an increasingly visible part of national and international culture and an important aspect of many people's lives - from leisure consumption and participation to elite performance. The Sport and Exercise Science Research Centre (SESRC) furthers understanding of the science of sport for individuals and teams and extends opportunities for people to make the most of their potential to participate in exercise for health and sport performance (for example, lower back pain, career transitions, amputees and older athletes). The Centre fosters athlete well-being by investigating optimum ways of preparing for sport through training and nutrition, and by applying sport science knowledge to other activities such as dance and exercise.

    The Centre for Language Assessment Research (CLARe) is one of Europe 's leading centres of excellence in the area.     Centre for Research in Cognition, Emotion and Interaction (CRICEI)

    The centre concentrates on areas of cognition that are mutually affected by emotion, social cognition and the discipline of social cognitive neuroscience. Research spanning conversation analysis, cognitive psychology and cognitive neuroscience aim to promote a synergy that fosters collaborations and a variety of research outputs. Some of these issues are looked at from a developmental perspective.

    Clinical and Health Psychology Research Centre (CHP)

    The Clinical and Health Psychology Research Centre (CHP) focuses on investigating the interaction of biological, behavioural, sociocultural and environmental factors in the aetiology, maintenance and prevention of health problems, and in health promotion. It combines excellent pure and applied research in a state-of-the-art multidisciplinary environment. Research in CHP is carried out in Neuropsychology, Child and Adolescent Health, and Adult Psychopathology.

    Research Centre for Therapeutic Education (RCTE)

    Therapeutic Education is examined as a cultural practice influenced by European philosophy, with particular emphasis given to the relational aspects of professional work, health, learning, and communication. The Centre has an international and national reputation, and its research programme involves international, national and local projects. Its Director is the first Chair of both the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy and World Council for Psychotherapy Research Groups.

    The centre focuses on four principal research streams - the Western Balkans and human rights; the sociology of war, genocide and global conflict and studies in post conflict reconstruction and reconciliation; globalisation, social theory and the sociology of human rights; and gender violence, hate crime, and victims’ and prisoners’ rights.

    Social Governance Research Group

    The Social Governance Research Group was constituted in 2011 and incorporates the Roehampton Social Research Centre (2005-2010). The membership comprises sociologists, social theorists, political scientists, medical sociologists and criminologists. The primary focus on governmental problems, ranging from solidarity and social welfare to risk management and well-being, gives the group its dynamic component and eclectic orientation.
