Cost of Living Support

Increases in the cost of living are affecting students across the UK and beyond. At Roehampton, we are committed to supporting our students with the cost of living, including hardship funding, a free bus service, affordable accommodation, as well as bursaries and scholarships.

This page outlines some of the advice and support available.

Student Hardship Fund

We’ve significantly increased our Student Hardship Fund and Emergency Loans to provide more support for students who are experiencing financial difficulties.

As a Roehampton student, you will be able to apply once per academic year. Funding includes Emergency loans (repayable) and Student Hardship Fund (non-repayable loans). Find out more here

Wellbeing support

Managing finances can be stressful and negatively impact our wellbeing, which is why our friendly Wellbeing Team supports students via a variety of initiatives. These include sessions to help develop money skills and confidence.

Health costs

In conjunction with the Students' Union, we’re pleased to able to offer free sanitary products to our students, which can be found in toilets across campus.

Our tip

Students may also be eligible to apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme to help save money on prescriptions.

Transport

We're happy to provide a dedicated free student bus service, exclusively for our students and staff.

This service runs every 20 minutes, between our Roehampton campus, Barnes, Putney, the local supermarket, and fast to Wimbledon Station - connecting to the London tram network and overland trains.

On campus parking and bike facilities

To make commuting into University both easier and more affordable, we have free on-campus student car parking (offered on a first-come first-served basis). We also have bike and scooter hire on campus, secure bike storage units, showers, and lockers.

Our tip

When travelling in London, the Hopper fare allows you to make unlimited bus or tram journeys in one hour.

Students can also save 30% on travel cards and bus and tram passes with an 18+ Student Oyster photocard. There are also 16-24 and 25-30 railcards available.

Student employment

There are plenty of opportunities to earn money at Roehampton. We offer a range of temporary staff roles including our popular student ambassador scheme, plus reception and administrative work.

Our Work Experience, Placements Teams and Careers Advisers are also on hand throughout the year to help students with updating CVs and provide guidance when job searching.

Commuter Kitchen

College kitchens

Whilst we have plenty of affordable canteens and cafes on campus, we provide well-equipped facilities for students who choose to save money by bringing lunch with them.

Located on each of our four Colleges, our College Kitchens have microwaves, fridges, as well as plenty of seating, charging points and lockers.

Technology support

Access to technology shouldn't be a barrier to study. We have a supply of laptops readily-available for loan to any student who needs one. Students can choose to hire laptops on a short or long-term basis.

We also aim for all texts for academic study to be made available digitally, so there's no need for students to spend money on unnecessary printing.

The right software is important. All students have free access via the Cloud to Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, OneDrive, Outlook, Access, Publisher and Teams.

Blackbullion

We're proud to partner with Blackbullion to provide access to online learning that empowers students with better financial decision-making.

Blackbullion provides our students with access to personal finance courses, aiming to develop financial confidence, knowledge, and empower better decision-making.

Students can sign up for free using their University email address.

Halls of residence

Our on-campus accommodation options are some of the most affordable in London and place students at the heart of the action.

Students living in our halls of residence save money on commuting, and can easily access extra-curricular activities taking place on campus.

Utility bills

We make sure all bills are included in the cost of halls rent, giving our students one less thing to worry about.

Gym Roehampton

All students have access to our exclusive and affordable on-campus gym run by Nuffield Health.

Our inclusive Gym membership covers all gym classes, and use of all equipment.
